The Basics Of Acne Skin Care

Many people suffer with the skin condition known as acne or Zits but while it can cause a great deal of distress, it is a condition that does have many treatments available. Skin care treatments are plentiful and research into the condition is continuing.

The acne skin care products available fall into those categories you can buy over the counter, on the internet and those that are designed to prevent the condition which are prescription only.

General acne products are used as a preventative measure and include cleansers, make-up removers and other similar products that can help prevent acne. This is a market where many people use this type of product every day to condition their skin.

More specialized cleaners are designed in the same way as acne skin care products, they clean out the pores to help stop sebum or oil which clogs up the pores. When the pores become clogged with this oil, bacteria which can cause the problem begin to grow.

General skin care treatments also include special exfoliation products like skin peels. These work towards removing dead skin cells, reducing the possibility of pore-clogging and bacteria development.

There are specialized acne skin care products available over-the-counter, they do not require the need of a prescription. Products that can remove the pore clogging oil contain the ingredient benzoyl peroxide, these include creams, cleansers and peels that slow down acne formation.

In case there is a reaction to the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide, dermatologists recommend that any product you use should be a low concentrations of no more that 5.5 parts per hundred. You may need to try a few but if none of them seem to be working then you would be advised to contact your skin specialist.

On-prescription treatments are prescribed by a dermatologist and can include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical ointment. Some specialists recommend the sufferer never tries doing this on their own as it can cause permanent skin damage.

Hormone treatment might be suggested as hormone changes can lead to acne. With all the treatments available, tackling acne is not that difficult as there are many new products available to help.
