Chanel Perfume Through Time
Chanel fragrances are world famous, and part of the Chanel collection boasting one of the most distinguished names in the perfume industry. Not only are the fragrances very distinctive, but the logo and packaging are also classic. The Chanel brand is a distinct hallmark of top quality products, whether it is handbags, cosmetics or fragrances. This amazing French Fashion house was founded by the late Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel and continues to be the leading manufacturers of fragrances today.
Chanel wanted to design styles that were classic, yet simple and would appeal to women from all classes. The designs that were created were timeless, and such items as the little black dress are still as popular today as they always were. When it came to fragrances Chanel wanted to create a perfume that made women feel complete, and independent in the culture they lived in. Not only did Coco succeed in her mission, but she also ensured that her perfumes were the best in the world.
Chanel No5 perfume was born in 1920. It offers over 128 different ingredients that were concocted by famous chemist Ernest Beaux. He was well ahead of his time being able to enhance natural fragrances with powerful and tasteful results. This accomplishment was truly amazing, especially when utilizing Jasmine as the main ingredient for Chanel No5 perfume. Once his work was finished he presented the company with 5 different choices and they chose the last one (number 5). The company also released Chanel No5 on the 5th day of the month, which they still believe is their lucky number today.
In order to attract attention, employees would spray the changing rooms in the Chanel boutiques with Chanel No5 perfume. Wealthy individuals would ask about this wonderful fragrance and either purchase a bottle for themselves or as a gift for someone else. Eventually it became a mainstream item that could be found in drug stores up until 1974. However, after a relaunch with their new cosmetic range, this perfume was pulled from all those shelves. It created a huge demand in the industry, which turned out to be a major success in their marketing efforts. It's one of the most sought after perfumes, and today its said that a new bottle of Chanel perfume is purchased about every 30 seconds.
If you look at the advertising campaigns that are used for Chanel No5 perfume they are just as popular. There have been countless numbers of celebrities and famous people who love the fragrance, which entices them to be involved with the campaign. All it took was a picture of Marilyn Monroe enjoying Chanel No5 perfume to bring it to the top of the fame chart. Today this picture is still used to advertise the Chanel perfumes, but more recent stars like Nicole Kidman head the new advertising campaigns today.
Although the advert only lasted three minutes it cost over $46 million to produce, making it the most expensive No5 adverts to date. In 2009 Audrey Tautou became the face of Chanel No5, and was chosen to make a short film about the perfume. This film was released on the 5th of the 5th to honour the world famous number 5. The latest advertising film in 2011, features Keira Knightley seductively promoting Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. Although Chanel is one of the most expensive perfumes on sale it continues to be the market leader in fragrances.
