The Derma Roller Featured on Rachael Ray Show

On a recent Rachael Ray show titled the Human Lab Segment, Rachael tested out several anti-aging creams and devices on a few select members of her audience and had them check back in a few weeks to report on their progress. She also had a guest speaker, Dr. Loretta Ciraldo, Professor of Dermatology at the University of Miami; evaluate the pros and cons of each anti aging skin treatment.

The derma roller, a small hand held device that contains 192 surgical a steel points, was one of the most popular skincare devices evaluated.

Research On The Derma Roller

This micro needling or skin needling technique is one of the hottest natural remedies for removing acne scars and wrinkles, stretch marks, white heads, and black heads. The derma roller is also used to perform collagen induction therapy (CIT). According to numerous studies, when these needles or points are rolled over the skin, it causes the body to naturally produce collagen in effort to heal the skin , something our skin doesn't do so often after we reach a certain age.

A recent study performed by a Swiss dermatologist - who tested the derma roller on 600 people with aging skin problems and facial scars - found that there was up to a 40% improvement in skin rejuvenation and up 60% reduction in scars. They speculated that the increased collagen production from the derma roller - which they call collagen induction therapy (CIT) - is what helps to heal the skin, fill out depressed or pitted scars, reduce and smooth stretch marks, and repair wrinkles.

So how does it work? When the derma roller is rolled over the skin, it creates tiny little punctures into the upper dermis of the skin which signals to the body that it should begin a wound healing process. This means it starts to increase production of collagen fibers, skin cells, and elastin. This helps to fill in scars, wrinkles, and stretch marks. In fact, the derma roller is considered one of the best acne scar treatment you can perform at home.

In addition, the derma roller allows for optimum absorption of any anti-aging cream you may use afterwards. Each time you use the derma roller, the collagen building effects continue for weeks , helping to smooth out stretch marks, acne scars, and fine lines and wrinkles, its one of the best home remedies for wrinkles that's actually backed by science.

Finally, the derma roller for skin rejuvenation is that it doesn't cause damage to the skin unlike other methods for scar removal and wrinkle reduction. Most typical skin rejuvenation techniques, like laser and chemical peels cause extensive damage to the skin, require a few weeks of healing and downtime and increased sun sensitivity.
